Vintage French Exoticism: Chinoiserie

Posted on November 16, 2017 by DELIA SEAMAN

A little inspo for this week's post.

The term 'chinoiserie' (der. French) was first used in the 1836 novel L'Interdiction to describe craftworks made in the original Chinese style.  Today it is a european, rococo look that is reflective of its Asian influence.  Its allure is whimsical, richly mysterious and distinctly feminine.
We love chinoiserie when it is used with a folksy, artistic spirit. Soft, delicate florals evocative of vintage botanical prints, mixed with exotic, tropical accents and luxe, opulent colors.
